Hi I've got a vs v6 auto, ran it for ten mins no problem, stop, start after 5mins and she runs shithouse, missing at idle and coughing and spluttering and missing under load but runs fine at speed, checked plugs, leads, coils (with 2 diff packs) and changed dfi module as I've read on a few of these posts, fuel pump and filter are new and tank is generally kept above half, cleaned filter and still no change and the check engine light hasn't come on yet, short of doing head and inlet gaskets, I'm lost, any help would be great.
try changing your crank angel sensor mate
Try error codes first as that may give an indication:Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Apart from that, remember the fault will probably be very simple....just gotta find it!
Check the vacuum hoses for splits etc, clean the throttle body (see how-to) and finally check your fuel pressure regulator by removing the vacuum hose and inspecting inside of the hose for petrol - this will indicate that the regulator is buggered which I'd see as a prime suspect.

If it was fuel regulator or dirty throttle body, it would happen over time wouldn't it, not instantly, because it done it instantly I would assume it's a computer problem, correct me if I'm wrong.
So I've just checked the fuel regulator and it seems fine, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong there, although the hose was a little moist, but not wet. I've got a cas on order so that should go in on the weekend, is there a special harmonic valences pulled or will the home made jobby I use on the old Holden be fine?
There was a vacuum hose from the bottom of the tb to the bottom front of the plenum that was rooted, basically fell apart in my hands, although I think it made a difference, it still runs like a bag of shit, it's improved 1%
where any codes logged as hako suggested?
when you say you've check the leads & plugs, did you replace them or just check with a multimeter?
Thugs are pretty new, pulled all the leads and I doesn't miss on a single cylinder, it picks and chooses, if the cas doesn't help, I'll get someone to check error codes.
When I pull the balancer out, will I need to change the seal in there or will it be ok?
It will be ok without one.
Good time to do the front main seal, timing chain and disconnect the balance shaft if you can be bothered though.
generally if its running rough, and rough acceleration its the leads.. very common on the ecotec.
plugs are easier to change then the cas, also checking the codes is free and only takes a couple mins, the longest part of it is finding a paperclip lol
post up the codes it hopefully should pinpoint ur issue.
It's got new leads on it they were only put on 2 months ago, with the new plugs, now here's a question also, cos the old Holden just done a starter, will Eco starter fit early v8????? Anyone heard? I'm not worried about anything else, replace when fails, but since I've paid for the cas and it's coming I'll fit it anyway
Also ephect, where is there someone that will c out to check error codes?
So cad is in, no different, went for a drive and it seems to get worse the longer you drive, after 15 mins it started back firing and loosing more power, so I pulled the exhaust off from cat back, and didn't change, could it be a collapsed cat???? Though next thing is error codes
So it's not a collapsed cat, anyone know anyone that does diagnostics so I can get some error codes?
Do you know of anyone that does them nearby?
Seriously, get a paperclip stick in pins 5&6 and count the lights.. Post up with results
U won't even need to take ur shoes off, 10 fingers is all u need
The fuel injectors I would be checking out, sounds like they need to be replaced.......................................... .................
How do I do that? I'm new to efi so I got no idea.
So after all that piss farting around, I got bored, I checked the leads again, still missing on all cylinders, so I changed leads with some 2nd handies I had laying around and problem fixed!!!! The new leads weren't any good, but had no reason to really check them cos they were new. So fixed. Thanks to all that help out.
Thats great.

Your not telling me, I decided to strip another commi instead of getting it on the road because of the problems I've had, it's the last commi v6 I'll ever own, I never had any of the problems in the old 202 with bad compression, cracked piston and COMPLETLY worn out, it still ran like clockwork until cracked piston finally went BANG!! and I've still had more probes with my newish 253
So to bring up an old thread, the shitbox is doing it again, coughing, spluttering, it never really went anywhere, had a long drive, and it starts, I decreased the engine just with the garden hose the other day and really got bad, I've checked error codes, and got 12, nothing wrong!!! The car is delusional. Could it be a faulty plug or wiring somewhere?
