Hey Guys,
My car was recently running bad on fuel. I took it to the guy i bought the car of (whos a mechanic) and he said he will fix it. He said he changed injectors and fuel filter and now the car is running ok.
Is their an easy way of checking if the injectors were actually changed? I have a feeling the fuel filter was f'd and he just changed that, but charged me for injectors as well.
I guess if you pull them out you should be able to tell, they should be really clean and have empty/no shit in the filter baskets, and the o-rings should probably be new as well. I don't know what other way you could tell.
If its a V8 then I can help, I have never done a 6 so cant guide you.
Just remove the engine cover (if one) and then just remove the fuel rail bolts and fuel lines. The the entire fuel rail and the injectors will pop up . Make sure you remove it as even as possible as you may damage one of the rings (pindle or something?) and it will lean out.
Once you have the fuel rail in hand, just flip it over and have a look at it. Injectors rarely need a change and just a clean but if they were new they wont have a burnt look to them at all....
You will notice whether or not they have the burnt look about them
Easiest way is to have a close look at the outside of the injectors - if they are dirty and/or have grease or dirt on them you could say they were not changed. The area where they plug in should be clean.
However, a clogged filter on it's own probably would not be the sole reason for the car running bad and seeing as the car is running OK now then why worry. If he charged you upwards of $400 then I'd expect to see new injectors, but if only a hundred or so then he may have only changed one or a few and used known good injectors to replace the clogged ones with.
Sometimes gut feelings are not correct!

Should of asked to see the old injectors or any parts being replaced on your car.But if its running ok now i would not touch it if it aint broke dont mess around with it you may cause another problem with your car.
Next time ask for all the receipts for parts.
