Hey guy's
what is the issues with these bloody commodores idling like a pig once they have been driven and warmed up?
what is causing it and how to fix? we have had 2 now with the same rough idle problem after being driven, and when i say rough i mean rough, it's embarrassing! sounds like it's idling on 5 cylinders! but when it's cold idles perfect!?
Commodores usually idle pretty smooth...and quiet. My first guess in your case is that the throttle body is dirty and needs cleaning with some of that spray throttle body cleaner. There is a How-To on how to do in that section.
I'd also do a fault code check which takes 5 mins and a paper clip....it can give you an indication of the problem: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
If it's using more juice than normal it could be the coolant temp sensor - this tells the ECU if the engine is hot or cold......if they fail they just tell the ECU the engine is cold which results in poor running when hot plus increased fuel consumption.

thx hako for the reply
it's not using excessive fuel at all, we drove from Tamworth to Ipswich on 3/4 r's of a tank so i wouldn't say it's heavy on fuel, would average at about 550k's+ per tank?
I think il'l try cleaning the throttle body first and IAC and see what happens? It's just that the last vr we had that done this...even after cleaning TB and IAC still idled like a pig when hot?
i had the same problem with my vr a few years ago it was so rough it would somtimes stall at trafic lights turned out to be a spark plug wich had a slighty to small gap i would change the plugs and gap the with a set of feller gages i yhink the gap is listed on the emmisions controll sticker
