hi again..after driving the old girl 3oookms she has developed a wiiring sound(like driving on 4x4 tyres)not being able to get under her.could it be the tail shaft or maybee a wheel bearing.??...or ???![]()
???... a match might fix it ...
unlike the older holdens the drive shaft is in two pieces...could that be the prob.???
could be the centre bearing in the tailshaft..... wheel bearing you can usually hear in one corner of the car louder
i have 1000kms to go.is it a common problem?
do you have 4x4 tyres on? haha
Jacking up the car and giving the wheels all a spin and checking for play in your wheel bearings is probably a wise move before you go driving another 1000km on it. Also check for stuck or binding brake calipers, damage to or delamination of the tires, fouling of the driveshaft or wheels on the exhaust or chassis. If you are unable to do this yourself take it to a mechanic nearby who can.
Asking on here with such a vauge description of the fault, then continuing to drive 1000+km on it thinking its ok because somebody with dubious mechanical experience who hasnt even seen the vehicle said it was ok is nothing but irresponsible.
andrew.thanks ..having only worked on the older holdens(hr-hz)was hoping someone could save me some time in trying to pinpoint the noise.its not long gone through the paces of a blue slip last month.only traveled bout 60 kms since, but having looked into the workings of the tail shaft its likely to be in the centre bearing case...and am just using this site as a guide..
What tyres have you got on it? Could be a tyre noise. Also might even be the diff. Does it happen between at certain speeds (80-100km/h etc) or is it there all the time?

You really have to go through a process of elimination, like most things that go wrong with cars.
