Ok, When removing the motor and box I stuffed the tranny lines about 3inches from the trans.. So Have ran new flexible lines to the box, and was going to replace the old lines with a Barb style fitting... sounds easy.. tried pirtek, enzed, wreckers, auto store, tranny place (who said yeah i know what you doing but i cant remember where to get them).. it is 5/16 size barb fitting with a bsp thread... ANY THOUGHTS>>HELP

We did our box 3 weeks ago and just used 5/16 trans cooler hose with one jubillee (worm drive) clamp each end - ours was cut about 3" from the trans for ease of removal/fitting. Some people say use 2 clamps each end but the line is not under great pressure.

Lately I have been using 2 clamps at each end but that because I have found that its not uncommon that the transmission hoses start leaking. A customers car came in for a service and I noticed that the bottom transmission hose was slowly leaking onto the bottom radiator hose soaking into it and making it go really soft.

So I usually replace both the rubber hoses and put 2 clamps on each end. But you are correct, it isn't high pressure.

You know you can still buy the trans cooler lines new from holdens and they cost #### all like $10 each. Just re-run new hard lines then cut and flare yourself then use a hose clamp, dont need a barb fitting.

    Hose Not high pressure huh??
I was traveling down the freeway & had the tranny line "Blow off"!!
This was fitted when the tranny shop done the 2x hose clamps on both lines.
It was a reputable tranny shop & they closed to chase something more profitable
So I was doing 100+kmh when it blew. it almost emptied the tranny completely in under 1km!!!

to avoid that problem, Double Flare the end of the tranny line you are doing with hose.
then you will only need 1 hose clamp & it will be on properly.
Either that or your original idea with barbed fittings would a great idea.
Just hope that helps you avoid my problem with the tranny.

If the tranny lines have a minimal gap between the two ends to be joined - like a few mm, it is virtually impossible for the hose to blow off or the tubing to be forced out of the hose as it's more or less rigidly fixed at either end. However if there is a gap of 100mm or so then the hose possibly could blow off under extremes of heat and pressure. Generally when the lines are cut, the distance between the two pieces of tubing to be joined is only the thickness of a hacksaw blade.
I guess it would also depend on where the joins were made and how flexible the pipe was.
But it sure ain't the ideal method and flaring would be the way to go.....however most people don't have flaring tools or barbed fittings etc on hand.
After reading what BottleFedVS says, I'm going to recheck the lines I joined ....maybe make them a bit more fail-safe bucause from memory I had a gap of about 50mm to make the hose easier to slip on. (it was a good idea at the time!)

I was comparing to the high pressure fuel lines, of course if a transmission line happens to come off its going to pump all the fluid out, the oil isn't going to just sit it in the Transmission waiting for the hose to be reconnected.

Thanks for all the thoughts people, I decided to braze some milled down airline fittings to the original bolt for the trans lines.. Ran flexible tran line and was done with it.. I even tried holden for the lines, But they havent made them since 1998...Took it to the local box place and they reckon what i done was what they would have done too..Evidently there is a barb fitting for the box but good luck sourcing it..

So again thanks for the thoughts...
