Occasionally when I start my car it will crank a couple of times and just stop for a few seconds and nothing then it will crank again and start... Is the CAS on its way out? Any thoughts appreciated.

perfectly normal for the ecotec. It will happen more when hot. It's the starter motor. When it gets hot it just turns over slower. Ive got extractors so it makes it even worse - but no problems

How old is the battery?
Clean all contacts.

Had the same problem. It turned out to be the connection on the solenoid was bad and cannot be repiared. It is either replace the starter motor or the solenoid....
Ah ok then. Was it expensive to fix? Never had to replace a starter motor... not a big problem, just annoys me a bit. Cheers guys

That happens to my VS now and then (happened more when I had the ecotec fitted). I think it is normal as well.

Bad earth or dirty connections.
.
I had a spare that was meant for a manual, but it does work.
I would say it is not normal, you can easily check the connection that is bolted to the starter. If it is loose then there is your problem.
On mine the nut had welded itself on the thread and I had to rip it out to remove it, no doubt this happened because it was getting really hot due to shorting out.
New starter motors can cost around $200 I did see one on eBay for $99

Mine does this usually if I don't start it up for a while.
It wouldn't be anything to do with the CAS because it was doing it before with my faulty CAS and still does with a brand new one.
I've heard stories about the engine not being earthed to the chassis very well - I seem to recall one story where the cable that was earthing the engine block actually starting to burn the insulation due to arcing etc.
Check that one, might need a heavy duty cable from the block to the chassis??
where is the engine earth cable?
