G'day fellow commodore owners,
A few weeks ago installed a set of lowered King Springs and a set of Lowered GT Monroe shocks, since then the ride has been fantastic, like its on rails. Anyways, while i was under the rear end, i discovered that my exhaust has been crushed to approximately 2/3 of its original diameter, Ive had the car about 18 months, and have never bottomed it out to cause such damage, so how much power if any am i losing by this damage?
Id imagine the damage was cause by the swaybar that you can see just below the damage..... Cheers
Here is a pic:

That is factory, they are like that new.
It wouldn't be causing a noticeable power loss at all.
Bahahaha!! from factory ??? lol, nah man, your having a lend of me...... arnt you ??![]()
My old vs v6 stock zorst never had anything like that lol
Not convinced that the exaust leaves the factory looking like that.
hah my stock system had that exact same dent in it and i had just assumed it occurred from the scenario you detailed. The power loss wouldnt be noticeable though
That kink may stop some poo coming out![]()
OK , so it looks as if Holden made this dodgy thing on purpose. So your all saying that it has no effect on back pressure??? Then why didnt holden just put a 1 1/2 inch exhaust on it then ?
It's like that to clear the parnhard rod I'd imagine
its not like that from factory guys, my vn never had that dint in it till i lowered it and tucked 15's, heard vibrations till i hit hallam road train tracks and the exhaust rattle stopped, raised the car later that month and HELLO there was the same dint
Im sure what Abba Fan means is that every commodore is dented like that in the same place - as if it were factory (when its obviously not) and making a joke about it.
TBH I thought you guys would be clever enough to spot he was making a joke...
And there will be no noticable power loss from it, an exhaust has to be crushed pretty badly before seeing any noticable loss. You probably would notice a power loss if it were something like a porsche 924 or 944, but commodore exhausts are pretty poorly designed already so a little crushed bit doesnt really make much difference.
BTW Back pressure is not something you want in your exhaust system, Read up on Helmholtz resonance.
No, I was serious. A factory VN-VS live axle rear muffler has that dent in it for the exact purpose of clearing the panhard rod.
Some aftermarket replacement OEM mufflers have that dent too, particularly Walker, who make the original part. Most others don't, and performance exhausts don't either.
I never said it wouldn't affect it, I said you wouldn't notice it.
Because it is factory.....
Although, a larger than standard exhaust coupled with low suspension MAY dent the exhaust, but it wouldn't look like that, it would be more of a line mating up exactly to the panhard rod.
Sometimes exhaust places will put a dent in the exhaust to clear the panhard rod because they don't know how to fit an exhaust properly.
I know....at first I didn't see 'not' and thought you weren't, but what I said works either way lol.

Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Holden is probably monitoring this thread.
Call it constructive criticism... Or being built to a dollar standard rather then a quality standard like most things have been for the last 20 years...
