I just did the exact same job on my VR SS.

I think ur issue might be loom and ecu are incompatible? not sure.

Any way, this is how i did it...

Transplanted engine and manual from my other car.

VR SS loom and auto ecu remain (No manual ecu or loom). Used the VERY helpful tutorials i found on this site, plus some other online sites, to rewire speedo, reverse lights and bridge the neutral start switch thingo.

I was worried that id have stalling issues, as thats what happened with my VS v6 when i converted it using the auto ecu and loom.. But the VR SS took it like a champ! NO stalling, and runs like it was meant to be there

    cheers

its because it is not getting a signal from the bcm to start because the vs has a transponder key and will not let the car start with out that signal .
And to old mate running the auto ecu you will find it will idle high your fuel economy ill be atrocious you will have bad over run to the point i had flames out the exhaust on big hills and the car just never runs quite right .
    been here done it

Idles perfect, return to idle is just how a normal manual would be. I thought it would hold idle up high but it doesnt! crackles a little but no where near as much as some others ive heard. It actually does drive like it was meant to be manual.

I'm getting the tune tidyed up on the dyno as soon as i get rego on it, so it'll be all good. Auto errors off and a bit of a tweak.
