Hi Peoples
Have a problem with my VR SS V8 5hdd tranny it doesnt want to shift past 2nd gear.I read that the 3-4 solenoid can be dead and thus need to be replaced but not sure so I replaced the whole transmission with another one with same-ish km's and within 5 months the exact same problem has happened wondering if anyone had any helpful words with past experiences or so on
PS: also can you change trannys from a 5hdd to 6hdd or 7hdd
I think your trans should be a 5HBD so if you have a 5HDD then that is the trans for the V6.....V8 tran are HBD. Apart from that, you should use the same model/year box that came with that car especially with VR as the VS boxes have an extra pin in the electrical connection and will not work correctly in a VR.(this is for the V6 so I presume same for V8).
Do a fault code check which will tell you if there is a solenoid fault although your fault sounds more like a bad TPS (throttle position sensor).
Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

I hope they interchange. I have a Auto Transmission out of a VY Calais in My VS at the moment....

This is a handy guide to different applications:

Ah thanks for that hako
I'll double check what model my Transmission is when I lift it on the hoist and see if its ok or not.
I had a look at the code on the VS and VY Transmissions but I think I should be going off the VS code because it has a VS wiring loom.
So it needs to be a 7HLD but its either got a 3HND or 4HND. Wish they didn't paint over the sticker when it was reconditioned at some stage.
