hey guys bit of a noob when it comes to commodores (im a ford guy)
but am in the process of changing my girlfriends engine in her vr commodore and all was going smooth
until we tried to mate the trans with the engine, the trans was left in the car when the old engine was removed.
the spline seems to have lined up and gone straight in to the torque converter but there is close to about
an inch gap left between the bellhousing and the block and we cant get the trans any further on.
so obviously must be doing something wrong but i dont know what. never stuffed around with torque converters either
allways been manuals so this is a bit new too me.
any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Jason
you need to fit the torque convertor right into the box then mate the box to engine should go in 3 clicks while turning the convertor
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

bugger, so torque converter goes on the gearbox first, then you mate it to the engine?
im guessing you have to take the bottom plate off the engine to be able to bolt the converter to the flywheel?
yes, its a bastard but dont force it, i killed a new auto that way
The torque converter should be on the trans not the engine.
The torque converter has 2 or 3 lots of splines, so locate it on the trans front shaft spline and push it inwards until it stops, then gently rotate it again until ithe next lot of splines line up and it should then go back in further etc.
When you are mating the engine to the trans, have the transmision inspection plate off, and then install the flex plate to torque converter bolts, by starting one, then rotating the engine until the next one can be started etc. Once all are started, tighten them up by rotating the crank again.
dont stop spinning the torque converter until you get THREE clicks.
is there a bush in the rear of the crank for a input shaft for a manual gearbox ?
