    Default Gasket in Wrong way?

quick question before i have to go out and fiddle around more.

if i put the gasket in the rocker covers the wrong way around (so the tab doesnt go into the tab spot) would it be detremental to the motor?
    eg. could it cause leaks?

ill probably still turn it around anyway.
but would it do any harm if i drove it say up to 10kms?

    thanks in advance.
how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that

I would run the car for a couple of mins and see how bad the leak is and take it from there. But ideally take mum or dads car down to get some new gaskets if there stuffed.Try and turn them around first while the engine is still cold did you use any gasket sealant?

If its not leaking now, chances are it won't leak, the little tabs aren't what create a seal, they just locate it.

If you're worried just pull them back off and flip them over/around until the tabs line up. Even throw on some gasket maker/silicon.

thanks for that quick reply guys.

i have just put the new rocker covers and gaskets in.
i didnt think i did the drivers side one right. by not lining the gasket up properly (upside down if that makes sense)
i was just being lazy =P

so ill just take it off and make sure it was in properly.
which ill do when it cools down (outside temp that is)

    thanks again

    it felt good.

its more the hands that hurt.

getting to the bolts holding the covers in right at the back near the firewall were hard.
especially the drivers side one =P

yeah well checking it today i managed to drop a 13mm nut that holds a little bar with the leads on it.
only drove the car like 20m max (out of garage, and around driveway to back (turn around) car in closer to bench, for more room)
the bloody exhaust headers (stock mind you) were like bloody fire =P

found the nut sitting on some crossmember thing.
then knocked it onto floor =P

    nothing worse then loosing nuts/bolts.

oh and the gaskets were in right.
my mind was playing tricks on me.

also there is a snapped bolt (well more of a thread?) that holds the exhaust headers in place?
its on the passenger side right up the front.
it also holds some C shaped bracket that looks like it does nothing =P
anyone know if this would be a big problem?
and if it is what can be done about it? =P (if its no problem ill just leave it. as it still is holding the exhaust in?)

Howdy mate if i have this right the bolt head has snapped off and your left with a thread stuck in the hole.If so i would replace it and any other suspect bolts, you can go to the hardware shop and buy something called easy outs. (just ask for something removes threads) It may be that your loosing power because of a leak in your headers all be it factory headers. The C shaped bracket is prob a heat sheild and if it was me i would put it back on if its not rooted so i hope that helps you bud good luck.

yeah its all back where it goes. as the bolt sheared on a slight angle. so i put it back in its spot.

yeah we have the easy outs at home... already used them on car parts before =P

ill have to have a look into it.

but thanks for the info and help =P
