Default Need a place to work

Recently moved to a house in stafford, Brisbane.

The whole house and the surrounding area is on a hill.

Jacked the car up yesterday and completed an oil change however the car was very unstable.

Was wondering if anyone had some spare room for me to do a few basic services every few months.

    Just need some flat concrete

    Welcome to brissy mate.

So your house doesn't have a car port or garage?
You could always find a shopping centre car park - if its just the basics (oil/filter) and you possibly don't need any 240v power.
There's flat ground at the bunnings in stafford where the brisbane JC crew meet up

i think you would need permission to do this and i think the answer would be a straight out no
i don't think they would take too kindly to someone just rocking up and servicing their car in their carpark

We're on a hill and all the driveaway has a fair slope - I use a set of ramps to raise either the front or rear depending on what I'm doing plus some bricks at the opposite end for safety.

so if your car broke down in a carpark your gonna ask permission to fix it...doubt it! Your gonna roll up with a jack/stand and whatever tools and try your best to get it going. Just gave an opinion - I'm sure he could sum up the pro's and cons of whats right or wrong

But you seem like someone that asks for permission to scratch your own nuts so I would take it you live your life right to the edge.....get back in your hole gopher

You barely need to get under a VS to change the oil so doing it on a slope isn't a bbig problem. I also live on a slope and while its certainly not ideal you can do just about anything is you plan it well.
If you just need an extra few centimetres which is enough to get your drip tray and a ratchet under the sump a simple way to do it is to drive it on some planks of wood. Get a few pieces of solid old timber from a junk yard or clean up ...cut them about 40-50cm long and cut a 'ramp' on one end with a saw.

how about you crawl back into your hole?
there's a big difference to a break down and doing a service on your car.

like you i gave an opinion

I don't need to jack up the car to change oil n filter..

Can't see why u can't do it at bunnings, drop filter first, then the oil, while its draining, go have a snag or 2. come back, add plug, add oil, drive off...

Park to the sides, can't see em having an issue, if u get asked, u had an issue when driving past and their carpark was the closest around, plus u needed a snag

    I have an idea

If your uncomfortable doing it during the day in public, take a mate with u for a helping hand and go to the local car wash at night when it's quite
U got the under cover and lights with the flat surface. How's that idea.

    Just an opinion.

i dont think you can get all of the oil out doing it on a slope, unless it slopes the right way. If i was the op, id go to any carpark, generally you dont even need to jack it up, place the pan under the sump, if you put it in the right spot you can still undo sump plug with a ratchet, or just crack the bolt, put the pan there and take the bolt off with your hand. stall for about 5-10 minutes, have a snag like ephect said, have a bit of a look through bunnings, come back finish the oil change

if you worried about someone going lol look at that clown, surely you could do it at night in a shopping centre carpark with a torch, not ideal but yeh. carwash is a good idea to

Bunnings at Stafford are generally pretty good, the security and staff are pretty lenient and will generally allow pretty much anything as long as you are not doing any damage, dont make a mess and not disturbing the neighbours.

I use their carpark for testing RC Trucks and have had no problems, the Police even drop by for a quick chat from time to time and to keep an eye on what's happening.

Use the Car park closest to Stafford Road, it is well lit till 11pm every night and just make sure you collect the old oil into an old bottle that can be sealed and taken away with you.

Alternative no2, go to Anaconda's Carpark near Harvey Norman @ Everton Park, their carpark is also lit very well and is quite flat, it is also quite well hidden from view from the main road, meaning not too many nosey onlookers to part with their many words of wisdom.

    Welcome to Brisvegas.

Most car washes will burr up if they catch you changing oil, it is because they are under the control of the Environmental Agencies and required to keep strict control over the amount of oil/grease that goes through their cleaning plant.
Even if you are not dumping the oil they will likely fire up about it. I used to be Asst Manager for one of the Car Lovers sites here in Brisbane and we were under instruction from Head Office to not allow any such repairs to be completed onsite.
We also had to stop people using degreasers other than the environmentally approved ones that we supplied through the machines.

It is all about compliance with the relevant enviro acts....

I'm sure drivers of any other cars would do the same thing if they had to. I used to live live across the road from a big church carpark which I used to do all sorts af servicing on my car, cleaned up after myself and they never gave a stuff.

    Some great ideas here boys,

Guess the best way is make some friends with flat driveways

The money saved by doing general services by yourself, would be crushed if copper's gave a fine for being on private property.

Will keep looking and might try a pair of ramps.

May have found a place that allows you to rent a whole garage

    Probably not worth the cash
