For about the last month the VS v6 Auto has been a bit temperamental when starting up. First it just had about 3 second delay before it would crank and once it did it would ignite immediately, or tookn a coupla gos until it would fire. It seemed to happen less often when I had more fuel and wasn't on a hill, but I might have imagined that one. I've been putting it off until I get a full service later this month. Then it seemed to have fixed itself for about a week... until the last 3 days it's cranked as soon as the key's turned, but then taken a while to ignite. Tonight, it's cranked and not ignited at all despite all efforts.
After a forum search, it seems that the reasons for this seem to be:
1) Key malfunction
2) Spark plugs
3) Crank Angle Sensor
4) Fuel Injection
5) Coil failure
I've left her in town over night and haven't checked error codes. Hoping that anyone out there can either provide another reason for what the prob is or to tell me if one of those listed isn't likely. Sounds to me like the most likely one is gonna be a CAS in which case how much dya reckon a replacement should be?
My first suggestion would be the CAS. You should really do an error code check first though to be sure. Disconnect the battery first for 10 seconds, this will clear any old codes, try to start it and then check the codes. This should set a fresh code and point straight to the problem.
Another posibility is a dead fuel pump.
Can check by opening up the air filter and by using a hand held spray container similar to plastic bottle of stain remover, spray petrol mist into the intake whilst cranking the ignition.
If this method gets car to start then you have a fuel starvation problem, probably a dead fuel pump.
I have driven a number of commodores since the VN & they all go through fuel pumps eventually.
