Default VP-VS Inlet/Head Gasket Replacement Differences

Hi guys, I was looking at replacing the inlet manifold gaskets on my VS v6, but, seeing as it's got 150,###k's on an unopened engine and I'm pulling the manifold off anyway, I'm going to do all the top end gaskets. ie manifold, heads, etc, as well as clean the plenum up while it's apart.

My first question is, I have the VP Gregorys manual and was wondering if it's worth getting the VS one or not?

I know the manifolds (well the top anyway) are different but is it that much different to bother buying one? I'm fairly handy, so to speak, so I reckon I should be able to work out stuff as I go. I've done gaskets before, but not on an ecotec, so thought I'd ask in case there's anything major I should be aware of. Like torque settings being different for some reason or anything.

My second question is, is $180 a decent price for a VRS kit, or should I shop around a bit?

    Cheers

I wouldn't even bother with the head gaskets if it only has 150,000km on it. Not sure if any torque settings are any different but you wouldn't need them if you just do the inlet manifold gaskets. Pulling the heads off is a lot more work compared to just the manifold.

dont bother getting the vs manual, the torque settings are pretty much the same. Dough slightly different the vs works on the vp princables. Removing the heads are a good way to see how the motor is fairing, ie glazing of the bores and if your buring fuel effiently. Just be sure you get cans of degreaser to wash the inside of the intake off. The vrs kit for 180 seems good from normal retailers and ebay alike. Also dont bother putting the exhaust manifold gaskets on , the bastards always leak

Cheers mate. Yeah I'd already thought that about having a look at the bores etc while the heads are off. And I didn't think there would be too much difference between VP and VS.

The inlet manifold bolts should be tightened up in two stages.
For the first stage, they should be tightened up 3-6 Nm in the correct tightening sequence.
Then for the second stage, they should be tightened up 12 -18 Nm in the correct tightening sequence.
