Hey guys, me again with yet another problem with my car
Today i felt confident enough to drive 800km in my Commy to pick up my Manual Conversion.
Turns out i shouldnt have trusted it.
Got about 35 Km in the heat and started surging... Losing power and gaining power. Randomly stall.
It got that bad that my top speed was 20km/h.
Got a lift back into town before it started to rain. Came back in an hour and drove it home without a problem.
Ran a diagnostics and got:
43 - Knock Sensor
56 - System Running Lean
68 - Automatic Transmission Fault
Its had a new fuel pump + filter in the last 2 months so it cant be that.
I've recently changed the Inlet Manifold Gasket and as far as i know i put it back together properly.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Jake
Its simple man, ignore the tranny problem if your putting the manual in. $100 for a pair of knock sensors (thats if the wire isnt unpluged).
Cant seem ti find DTC56.. If you mean DTC65, replace oxy sensors $140, also before running it after doing the oxys, do the oxy sensor ground mod youll find it in the how to.
VR and VS error codes:
VS V8 DTC/Error codes comprehensive list.
VS V6 DTC/Error codes comprehensive list.
Sounds like the wire to the oxygen sensor is loose or has come off (only 1 on a VR) - but first I'd reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds. This will clear the codes. Re the surging, check all vacuum lines to the throttle body and the fuel pressure regulator. Recheck everything you did when you replaced the inlet manifold. Maybe also check the fat cable that joins to the rear of the alternator....this carries all the power required to run the engine and charge the battery and over time can overheat where it connects to the alternator...the wire strands crystallise and go brittle and can cause all sorts of strange problems. (this is a known problem)
How was the coolant temperature when surging?....did it miss badly when surging or was it still smooth....any reports of bad fuel in Nyngan especially if it's out of a 44?

Thanks guys its a strange problem because i drove it home fine an hour later ..
Im not giving up on her.. because if it can drive so smoothly and randomly play up then it must be something small.. Otherwise there wouldnt be any good days.
It was definately a 56. The fault code was listed in my Gregory's Manual so i dont know. I ran the test 3 times to triple check i had the correct codes.Cant seem ti find DTC56
I've recently replaced the o2 sensor. Maybe check all the wiring ?
It was missing badly.. had next to no power at all.did it miss badly when surging or was it still smooth
In fact, it was very similar to running an old carby fed engine with the choke on :P
I heard that a water main broke near one of the bowsers but i dont fuel up from that station.any reports of bad fuel in Nyngan
BumpLike to get this sorted out
Cheers,
