1st thing is 1st!!!
if someone ever tells you the round bearing (or whatever you wanna call it) at the back of the motor will come out, save the hasselhoffing for another day, it ain't gonna happen!!
ended up slapping the engine and gearbox(& 1st half of the tail shaft) from a vn series 2('91), few niggly bits a pieces that needed to be changed on the motor, but otherwise, i just used the engine loom from the vr motor and slapped it on the vn motor(vn doesn't have knock sensor, so just cable tied mine to the loom) first start, fired up and ran.. which I was surprised, was hoping i forgot something, but did not forget a thing..
i used the vr auto loom, and will be cutting the wire from the shifter switch to get my reverse lights working
need to replace the water fitting at the top of the motor(at the rear) as it snapped, thats 2 already thats snapped since the conversion >:|
need to replace heater tap as its now leaking
other than that, everything works![]()

um every vn v6 has a knock sensor, so someone has removed it from the engine
no krisp, this doesn't have the sensor at the front of the motor on the vn motor(the hole isn't even drilled to fit a sensor, only a screw hole if someone decides drill through the front of the motor to fit the sensor), my vr motor had the sensor ..., maybe i thought something different.. its the sensor that goes on the front of the motor mid to lower part.. however, i just disconnected it from the loom, and still starts fine
i got the speedo working, and reverse lights are all sorted
the speedo, some people say you have to splice the purple/white wire and join, but not always, this time i had to cut it completely from the plug in the kick panel, and directly join it(removing wire from plug)
i got told it'll enter limp home mode, but it never, this is using the vr engine loom and ecu
also, some people are having stalling problems, but for me fortunately it doesn't stall, and it doesn't rev high(just normal)
im still thinking why nothing went wrong, everything is working how it should, i just don't get it... lol its a holden..
edit: also in the process i figured out how to steal my own car, using a vy key... its to do with the security.. ain't say how but need to fix it fast (also can do this on any factory vr etc.. etc.)
It sounds to me like you are talking about the camshaft angle sensor which wasnt fitted to VN's but was fitted to VR etc.The timing cover on the VN has the screw hole there for the cam angle sensor, but doesnt have the actual hole there for the sensor to fit into. As krisp said above, all the V6 engines from VN onwards had knock sensors fitted, this is located near the oil filter on the side of the engine block on the early V6 buicks, and the ecotec V6 had two knock sensors fitted, one either side of the engine block, just in above the engine mounts.
