Vr Manual making ticking noise.

Hey everyone,
I havn't had the best luck with my cars...my last VS commodore was a dud and developed a knocking noise which was big end. (NEVER GOING BACK TO ECOSHIT!)Now my buick VR commodore 5sp manual is making a ticking noise when driving and on idle, it started when my mate decided to give the car a flogging over 100k's flat to the floor and then all we heard was a BEEP noise and he backed off, (not sure if it was someone on the road or the car that made the beep noise), ever since then it's made the noise. to make things worse, I just got the RWC and booked my inspection in to be registered , recently installed geni extractors, high flow cat and redback exhaust. Have tightened all the extractor bolts, exhaust bolts, cat bolts and made sure my spark plugs where tight. I've only just done a FULL service on the car including leads, oil etc etc about 1000k's ago. I went to Supercheap this morning and put some tappet noise stop in the oil just incase it was the tappets.

A Idea Mate, Pull off the belt, start her for a moment and see if it still makes the sound. Sounds like a pully of sorts to me. Im Thinking the Harmonic Balancer, My Father inlaws made a similar sound.

I was thinking maybe harmonic balancer aswell, but unsure, i hope it's not serious, anyone else got any idea's?

Well pull the belt off, if it still does it we can rule out other pullies etc.

ECOTEC is not shit. Treat em like shit and they will become shit............
I have seen many big ends blow on the old buick as well.

Well every ecotec i've had was always either a slug or a shitter!

Well pull the belt off, if it still does it we can rule out other pullies etc.

How do i pull the belt off?

VR/VS Engine Belt

But Please be sure you know how to put the belt back on. IE have a photo of the way the belt routs around all the pullies. only have it running for a few seconds so you dont run your battery flat or over heat the car.

If your still not sure take it to a mechanic please.

They must of been thrashed or poorly maintianed.

At the end of the day you treat any car like shit and it will fail. Take your car for example, it was treated like shit now you have a problem.

Yep, big wake up call, hopefully taking the car to a mechanic tomorrow, I have a feeling it might be my extractor gasket but who knows.....

Injectors are always noisy on the early V6's. Certain revs they are noisy, around 2100 2500 range they tend to get a little ticky if you listen.

Took the car to the mechanics today, the guy said the ticking noise was injector rattle and the ticking noise as you drive sounds like an exhaust leak, i've tightened the exhaust bolts and cat bolts so, it's gotta be the extractor gasket. Thanks for everyones help!
