VS window switchs, climate control and CD player relocation

Hey guys,

I am thinking about doing a relocation of the window switches in my VS statesman from the centre console to the drivers door trim arm rest then puttuing the climate control box where the window switches were and relocating the the CD player to the glove box and running a 10 - 11" lcd screen in the square there I have discussed this idea with a few people and they seem to think i may run into problems relocating the climate control because apparently there are sensors that cannot be extended in the back of the unit I was curious as to know wheather anyone on here has heard of this being a problem or actually relocating it and not having any troubles?

move ur climate control to ur ashtray, leave your window switches where they are

seen this done on "xcesiv" from memory, white vs, and he had a 17" monitor installed..

Ahhh ok, i assume there was no issues with it, tbh i hate where the window switches are in commodores its frustrating! but i want something there, i might put cupholders in, I have already pulled the centre arm rest apart and broken the plastic welds to the cup holders that slide in/out of the arm rest but they look tacky.. and using those cupholders the window switches get wet and it becomes a real pain to wind the window down when you have a drink...

from memory the wires just had to be lengthened and it worked fine, he did do a bit of moulding in that spot.

if you want to move the switches, which sounds like for ur application they're no good from factory, i would suggest checking out other manufactures window switches that are in the arm rest from factory, say subaru forester window switches.. you will get a better fit and they actually may look a heap better in the arm rest.

Ah ok, yeah i will need to do a bit of moulding to make it fit, Yeah thats not a bad idea, im not to much of a fan of the stock ones, they dont look very appealing, maybe vy ones? i'll do a bit of research and find some nice ones that will be easier to fit and what not.

Now i was thinking about the location of the CD player, i have heard you can get marine ones that the face (all the knobs and buttons) can be seperated from the unit itself either by a cable or remotely, and i was thinking about mounting the unit in the glove box and the face in the hoodliner above the rear view mirror like where VQ statesmans have the clock... any ideas about that??

yea i've had the vy switches in my console for prolly 5yrs now and they have been the best addition i've done, imo soo much better than the originals. reason i was suggesting looking at other oem switch blocks is some have a curved shape and not just a box shape that will look more 'factory' rather than an after thought type look.

i was about to suggest the facia relocation, i know over on mp3car.com a few of the guys there have done this, but its all been custom made. so if your happy with ur headunit, use some cat5 cable to lengthen and relocate the face where ever

your on the ball!

ahh yeah i get you now so its much more natural... How did the wiring go for the VY switches? are they the same as VS?

Yeah i think it would look really good changing everything around a bit, tbh i wouldnt mind moving the handbrake too but its not realistic... I am considering attempting to retro fit some VY cup holders to the centre console near the CD player... Have you seen the flip down parts in some statesmans where sunglasses and that go? i wouldnt mind putting some guages in thereor even the headunit.... far out iv got to many ideas happening haha, you wouldnt happen to have any pics of the vy switches and possibly the climate control relocation??

i have a vy wiring diag i can send you, pin outs are different but a patch loom fixed that.

you can move the handbrake, i have seen some vs utes with it down near the fuel cap release

i wanted to incorporate the vy cup holders in mine but i dont want drinks near my headunit!!! i have the vy sunglass holder which is another happy happy joy joy mod!

The only downside to the VY cupholders is like you said they are near the headunit and that the drivers one would hit my knee and irritate me after a while, how did you go with the sunglasses holder install? was it easy enough to do? I had a look at the facia relocation on that website and it seems easy enough but ill probably con a mate of mine who loves electronics to wire it all up (ill probably blow it up haha)

What other mods have you done?
