Default Rough Idle in VR - rusty coil the problem?

    Hey all,

I have a VR and a few weeks ago I had starting problems, I think I figured it out, it being the key and ignition not making contact properly, but now its running really rough. I think that it running rough isnt related to the starting problem I had because it started running rough about the third time I managed to get my car started but one of my mates who was trying to figure out what was wrong looked at the coils and one of them was rusty so he rubbed it a bit, it was after this it started running rough the next time it turned on and has done so ever since.

So my question is can I be pretty certain its the coils or was it just a coincidence and it may be the leads or spark plugs? Also, can I just change the single coil thats rusted or do I have to do the lot? (I bought a coil pack online but it arrived damaged, though the corresponding coil that is rusty in my car is fine).

    Hope that isnt too confusing!!!
    Cheers!!

Swap it and see what happens...do a codes check as well: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

Thanks, but car wont start again now. And I did a codes check and got 33:manifold absolute pressure sensor high voltage, 31:theft detterrent signal missing (thats what made me think I solved starting problem, something about it and starting problems in another thread) and then 12.

Those 2 codes probably mean nothing and can appear when you are having trouble starting the car but are just by-products. Wipe them (disconnect battery) and see what happens.Did you get the DFI module as well?. Is the car cranking? - if not leave ignition on for about an hour and turn to start (this overides the immobiliser)....if car then starts it will be key related I'd guess. A partially discharged battery will allow cranking but not starting.

yeah me and some mates went over everything and we are pretty sure its the key (after some technical door locking/unlocking it started), going to get a new battery in it and see if thats it. Its strange though I have searched all over this site and no where have I found it said that there could be a problem with the key with start problems. Thanks for everything though!!!
