    Default Power steering rack

Was leaving the house yesterday and noticed some red fluid on the drive way and had a quick look under the Bonnet and seems like a leak from the power steering. I filled up the fluid came home and checked again and it was almost empty. Can anyone help me in regards to where to get it repaired ? I got quoted almost $700 fitted and supplied.

I'm located in western suburbs of Melbourne. How much would I be looking to pay to get it fixed ?

Do you know approximately from where it is leaking? It's not really worth replacing the whole thing if only one of the metal lines has worked it's way loose.

You have to figure where it is leaking from and go from there...do it yourself...its not too hard.
For the price of a couple of o rings its worth checking if its the lines leaking out the pipe entry holes
Could be even that the low pressure return line hose has gone hard over time or shrunk or even cracked enough to let fluid past and needs replacing (you can get it from supercrap)or even just tightening up at the clamps it is peanuts compared to the cost of a recoed rack....if its pumped out that much fluid in a short time it must be a pretty big leak so it should be easy to spot.
There is also a top seal that has a special lip arrangement( I found you could only get the proper seal from a power steering place) that seals the pinion shaft and it leaks enough when the fluid is under pressure and hot to make a mess on your driveway...you can replace it pretty easily leaving the rack in the car and take off the valve housing by undoing the 4 lines going to it , undo and take out the lock bolt and slide off the intermediate steering shaft off the spline..... and undo the 2 allen head bolts securing it to the rack and lift the housing over the input shaft leaving the shaft still in the car and the valve housing with seal inside is out.... on the bench then just tap the pinion bearing out and then take the dud seal out and replace ...worked for me.
In the picture below its called the pinion seal and sits inside the valve housing under the dust cover....
