G'day all, I jumped in the pool over the festive season with my keys in my pocket! My keys don't have rubber on the buttons, my daughter picked them out so water did get inside. I blew the water out of the keys and let them dry out in the sun for an hour or so. I went to unlock my ute and nothing, so I manually unlocked the driver side door. I went to start the ute and there was no noises nothing when I tried to start it, all the lights on the dash appeared but no action at all. I tried the next day and it started but I was still unable to unlock the car with unlock button. Even after unlocking the drivers door, the passenger door will not open from inside the ute, will I need a new key or is there anything I can try to get things working again? Passengers have been getting in dukes of hazard style!

water in electronic devices is never good lol. but seems like at first the immoboliser wasnt turning off thats why u had power but no ignition. if your lucky the keys will eventually start working again on their own. but good chance the hour or so u dried them out for wasnt quite enough and was still some water inside and fried something when u tried to use them. replacements are about $80 give or take from most locksmiths. The thing ive learnt about holdens is they have a habit of sometimes fixing themselves so u might get lucky lol
You need to flush things like this in fresh tank or distilled water if the pool was a salt water pool and even if chlorinated as salt and chlorine will eat away at the electronics plus drain the battery, but if you didn't do that or the pool was straight water it probably is too late now. I'd open it up anyway and try a new battery - locksmiths or Mister Minit can do this if you don't want to. But you really need to do something soon because if the residual battery power in the remote fails, it will not overcome the immobiliser and then you must get a new BCM and keys etc or go cap in hand to Holden with the VIN to recode a new key.
I read somewhere that when the key battery starts to fail, first to go is the remote unlocking and then the immobiliser...designed this way so you get a warning.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will try the locksmith and see how I go then. I sort of hoped it would come good but it's been over 2 weeks now. Why would the passenger door not open from inside the ute though?

Well being a coincidence you may need a passenger side motor
passenger door wont unlock cause the central locking holds the lock button down only opens with the key button. you could force it but it may break the centrol locking mechanism
You could always try dropping your key in metho and then let it dry for a few days. Did this with my mobile once after it accidently took a swim :P Best you replace your key anyway though since you wont want to wait a few days for it to dry out but if the metho thing works at least its a spare![]()
