    Default ABS Problems

Ok, ever since i put in my new throttle body and reset the computer the ABS light has been on. Did some searching on the ALDL error codes and i am getting 12 (Reading Properly) and 27 (Front left continuity fault).

A couple of weeks before hand i did replace the front left wheel hub with a brand new one. I dont recall removing any wiring.

Any suggestions on where i should be looking or what i should be doing?

Car of course is a 96 S2 VS

Sounds as though you may have fitted a non ABS hub.

there would have to be a sensor there otherwise it cant tell if the wheel is locked up or not. my vr has disks on all four wheels that have slots in them where the sensor reads much like the notches in the back of the harmonic balancer for the Crank angle sensor. have a look at your old one to see it it has anything like what i described.

If you have ABS you must have disconnected the wiring from the hub when you were taking it off, so you should have a wire dangling from the suspension strut. The colour of an ABS hub for IRS rear suspension is grey (OEM part no. 92039932), for five link rear suspension it's black (OEM part number 92033919), and for non-ABS some other colour (OEM part no. 92046941). After market IRS/ABS hubs I have purchased have followed this colour code.

I definitely asked for an ABS Hub. But i may have been supplied an incorrect part not certain.

Looking at the back of the hub there are only 2 tubes. One for the brake and the other i assume is for the abs which i didn't remove when i replaced the hub.

The abs system will perform two checks when the igition is turned on.

One is a continuity check to ensure there is no open circuit in the wiring or sensor coil.
The other is a signal check (above 5kph IIRC) to ensure the ABS module is recieving a signal.

I would say there is a wiring fault.

Unplug the offending sensor and connect it to a digital voltmeter set on A/C volts.
When you spin the wheel, the meter should show a reading.
If not, set the meter to ohms and check there is no open circuit.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
