Hi guys I bought a vs v8 statesman today n just wanna know what the motor is 253 or 308 ??
308...
253 is the older 8.
304 but i heard on the internet the only 304 was the vl.. But i still think there 304.
The 304 was De-stroked in 85' for last of the VK's (black motor) start of the VL. Why was this you ask?
Due to Holden trying to come inline with group A manufactures in Europe wanting to race them as the 308, it was not classed a 5Litre but they were actually classed as a 6Litre - which was out classed by bigger/badder euro v8's so Holden De-stroked the donk
actually from memory it started back in the VK's once it went from the blue motors to the black V8's they became 304.
I had a 5ltr from a VK Brock commodore and it was 304
think the 253 was killed off when they added fuel injection to the black 202, made more power and was better on the fuel than a 253
Ops didn't read last post properly yep 100% started when the black motor was introduced
to throw a spanner in the works they are actually five litre, thats whats on the badge.
That may be whats on the badge, But it's niot entirely accurate.
Holden have a knack of rounding up.

^^^ Note that they state holden started using the 4.9 litre from 1984 onwards and ended with the VU model.
