Hey guys. Today my VR developed a clunk which sounds/feels like it's coming from the front of the car. It sounds like it clunks once every time the wheel rotates, but only when turning left or sometimes when going straight after turning left.
Its bad enough that I can feel it through the floor. It also seems to do it when under brakes and turning left.
The struts, springs, strut tops, swaybar and swaybar links were all replaced less than 1000k's ago and it only started happening today. I grabbed each wheel and gave them a shake (while car was on the ground) but no movement seems to be apparent, I'll jack it up tomorrow and give it another go and see if I can see whats going on.
Anyone got any ideas? Cheers
Were the Radius Rod, Tie Rods(Power Steering) and ZBar bushes check as well?
if the swaybar links were cheap or put in incorrectly then they can flog out very quickly. but as above radius rods, tie rod ends and also check your controll arms and ball joints.
Spring not seating in its locating groove correctly? Happened to mine after i lowered it. Jack it up, Get some spring clamps on it and rotate the spring till you can feel it "lock in" Then remove spring clamps and off you go.

might sound dumb, but might pay to check the wheel nuts to see if there tight.. ive come across this issue before.
I had a bad clunking/knocking sound coming from my front end in my VS which took me a while to track down what was causing it. I could feel it "clunk" through the whole car, especially under braking. There was absolutely no sound at all though when the car was bounced up and down. Id only just replaced the struts, strut mounts and strut bearings, springs, steering rack, rack ends and tie rod ends, and it had only done about 2000 km when it started making the noise.. I finally tracked down what was happening after getting my young bloke to drive the car back and forth, hitting the brakes hard, whilst I looked under the front of the car. I saw that the whole front end was moving back and forth, the K- frame bolts/nuts had come loose, one nut and washer was completely gone. The wheel alignment guy had loosened the K frame so he could move it slightly to get the caster angle for the wheel alignment exactly the same, side to side. The measurements were slightly different for each side and I wanted them both set exactly the same. The guy did the k frame nuts back up with a rattle gun, I watched him do it, so I knew they werent just left loose, but anyway, Ive locktited them now. If you cant find any other problems or worn parts, then its worth checking the K frame bolts/nuts..
My vs ute had a clunk like that, ripped the sway bar links off hahaha... Bloody deep spoon drains![]()
