Default hELP, MY CARS OUT TO GET ME

hey guys its me again... need some more help. i bought an after market o2 sensor a while ago and it came with an little box connector that has these funny connectors inside. (kinda like a metal rod coated in plastic with points on the end. well i have just pulled it off, the o2 sensor that is because ive been having trouble with it. the car first of all started sayin running rich, and now its sayin runnin lean. the wire colors are as follows, 2 x white, a grey and a black wire. but the wires on the other side of the harness are 2 x black, an orange and black and a purple. my question is if the 2 wires the same color on each side of the plug dont line up, how am i ment to wire it up.? im confused to the max.

the instructions that came with the sensor said the 2 black ones dont matter which way around they go... is this true?

the o2 sensor came out with black powder on it and when i cleaned all of that off i can see heat marks around the outside of the sensor. is that a good or a bad thing?

heat marks normal, black not really, indicates it's running rich, if the ecu thought it was running lean it'd be running a richer mix to compensate and it's not getting any feedback from the o2

the 2 the same color i'm guessing are the 2 gnd, 1 for the sensor, other for the heater.
what brand and what does it say for the other colors? if you mix them up and feed 12v into the o2 sensor it will die.

don't have an o2 sensor on hand to check the wiring on but here's a pic of the body side wiring, hopefully it'll help, keep in mind the plug you got with the new sensor look at it from the back not the pin side to work out the order

refer to pic above, what brand is the o2 sensor? cause if you don't wire it correctly it won't work, will die due to power being fed in the wrong place, blow fuses
welcome to the world of aftermarket and company color coding, no one uses the same layout

Sound like you did not get the one that is meant for your car... I got two last year and the plugs fit like they should.. sound like you got one that is meant for a differnt car. Mine are BOSCH as well..

single wire universal ones are useless, the 2/4 wire ones are ok, a 2nd hand one could be hit and miss, you don't know its age or how many km's it's done

the $20 chineese ones work ok aswell, for s&g's i grabbed one a year ago and it's still going fine

    guessing its
0 258 986 507 - Four wire sensor with 12 watt heater and ground isolated case. thats the bosch universal to suit vr

and now remember this is looking at the body side of the loom not the o2 sensor side.

to line the correct wires up face the plug you have in your hand with the metal plugs facing away from you as if it'll plug into the screen pic, black will be top left, grey top right, whites at the bottom furthest from the locking tab, hopefully that's not to confusing, if it is can you upload a pic of your current connector and i'll add what wire colors to join together

pulled the info for wiring from this pdf and it was <sarcasm>fun</sarcasm> to find..... being a bosch sensor you have they'll use the same color coding atleast.
worst case scenario if you mix the top black and grey wires closest to the tab you'll get an ecu error and no damage to the sensor, remember to reset your ecu once fitted.

    http://www.boschautoparts.com/Techni...sorInstall.pdf

and 187500kms is almost twice it working age, recommended to check and test every 100,000kms so it'd definately be hit and miss, may work but possibly lazy, could have the heater burnt out which won't help it either

in the back of the sensor the wires go around in a square. looking at the back and depending on the way you look at it it goes, top left black, top right white, bottom right grey and botom left white. that is the sensor i got from repco. only problem i have is that with the 2 white wires being for teh heater, how do you know if you have the right polarity? will it matter to the heater if you get it the wrong way around?? thanks for finding the pdf. looking at it now. and for the record i think that the sensor i pulled out back in october was the original one. and the speedo was sayin 285000kms but the odo has stopped as the cog inside has stripped its teeth(very common problem)

EDIT: read down to the bottom of the pdf and found the footnote that says the heater doesnt matter about polarity. so im guessing ive got it wired up properly because its a o2 lean error im getting at the moment
