    Default Auto Transmission Problems???

    Hi all,

Bought a VSII Wagon (V6) a few months ago (LPG fitted, 270000km). Two problems seem to be recurring fairly regularly.

    1) When started from cold and put in drive the transmission seems to be slipping for about a minute. Acceleration is really bad and revs like crazy before changing to second. If I idle for about a minute then there are no problems. The transmission works fine when the engine is warm.

    2) If I am in drive and put it in neutral or park and then back to drive, drive doesn't engage and I have to turn the car off then back on for drive to work. If I turn the car on and go straight to drive, no problems. If I idle the car for a minute then put it in drive (see point 1 above) then drive doesn't engage.

    Thanks for your assistance...
    Michael

have you checked your engine codes? also check your fluid level/age. might need more/new fluid in the trans.as for the other thing i have no clue. maybe a selenoid problem. maybe a ecu fault. but check your error codes.

    A code check gives 12, 57, 76, 12

I think 57 and 76 are more to do with running on LPG.

    Thanks for the reply...

    DTC 12 is fine.
DTC 57 is Injector voltage monitor fault
DTC 76 is Short term fuel trim delta high.

For more info check the V6 link in my siggy. I currently had DTC 76, replaced my fuel pressure solinoid and hasnt stalled since. But at a guess, and i repeat im guessing, might be something to do with your injectors to cause both faults.

Running on LPG will normally give codes 57 & 76 as injectors are not used. Re trans slippage etc - trans probably is nearing end of life due wear of clutches etc...may also be filter blocked if not serviced - fluid should be red - if brown it indicates slippage/overheating.
Short term fix at minimal cost is change trans fluid ($30 oil + $17 filter gasket) and add a transmission "stop slip" treatment - ask at SuperCheap which is the most popular. This will reduce slippage and give you breathing space. There is a "How-to" on servicing the trans in that section. Good Luck.

I would suggest a flush but that cost me $80 on just the oil alone........
