    Default 95 VR alternator

    Hey guys. New member here.

I recently picked up this car (for free), and I was told by the previous owner that the alternator for the air con was busted. How much do these usually cost to replace? Also, the handbrake is incredibly hard to put down. The button is very hard to push in. Can this be fixed relatively easily? I'm guessing it's the spring inside that's buggered.

One more thing, is it normal for the interior roof's glue to fail? The previous owner just got a bunch of thumb tacks to hold it up. What kind of glue should I use to affix it to the roof?

    Cheers.

if its just the roof lining material(grey fabric) then you can use spray on adhesive. ive dont it before and aslong as your careful it works a treat. as for the other thing, what do you mean by the alternator for the aircon??? i dont know if your talking about the aircon compressor or the alternator? cos there 2 seperate things. is it your battery thats the problem or the air con?

Yeah the lining stuff. I'll look into some spray on glue.

I'm not a big revhead so I really don't know. All I know is what I was told. Is there any simple way to check what's up with it?

well the easiest way is to jump in the car and try stuff out. if its the alternator youll end up with a flat battery and if its aircon you wont get any cold air outa ya vents. and with the headlining(roof) its easiest if you pick a spot ans start from there. i started from my center interior light and worked my way outwards.

Oh yeah, it's definitely the air con that's buggered. The previous owner said exactly this "The alternator in the air con is faulty, so you'll have to get that replaced". Was he just throwing words at me?

he doesnt know what hes talking about. there is no alternator to my knowledge in the compressor. at worst its the electronic clutch thats gone. easiest thing to do would be get someone else to replace it for you. they will test it and all and tell you what needs to be done. the compressor is located on the passanger side of the engine right down the bottom. could also just be outa gas. when they run out of gas they wont work. its like a safety feature inbuilt into them, so an automotive aircon place would be your best bet. post some pics of the car on here. all you need to do for that is click go advanced next to the quick reply button and click attach. youll come to a secont page which is the upload page. top right hand corner is the add files button. click it and select the pics u wanna upload. then just click upload and then done in the bottom left corner when you are done

I'll get some pics up in a sec. I just started fiddling around with the air con while the car was on, and it turns out that it works fine, but the car stalls when the air con is used.

if you give it some revs will it keep running? sounds like it needs a good service. how many kms on the clock? you can check the codes in the ecu using this guide: Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)

It has 210ks. Got the pink slip and there was no power to the back of the car, and the rear shock was leaking. Cost about $530 all up.

Revving the engine with the air con on doesn't stall it. I'll check the codes soon.

sound like your iac could do with a clean. iac is intake air control. basically like an automatic choke. if its busted it may come up in the codes
