Hey.
i took the side strips off one side of my vs with no issues, then i attempted to take the other side off, and it appears it was replaced, the glue and staff was in odd places and stuff, and it cause some paint to be removed, how should i go about fixing it?
This is the good side:
bad side:
close up on worst spot, bare metal. ignore the black around, have not got atround to removing all the sikaflex.
Not so bad side, Is that primer or something?

Question is, you want the cheap fix or proper fix?
Sorry i was not specific.
To answer your question, im not really sure. it all comes down to price vs quality.
i have been quoted $200 for a door respray all prep. is this a reasonable price?
is touch up paint a bad idea? how badly would it come out?

How would that go with paint fade etc?
Prolly not well for fade. That amount for a respray isnt too bad! But with painting, def check out the quality of his work, cause if he cant blend his paint right, you will have a new looking door against a used car body and other door.
I would sand back the patches so the paint n metal feel almost smooth and then prime, sand and paint that patch while blending in with the surrounding paint. Finished with a buff to help hide the blending...
you could two tone your car, kinda like a Calais

i would absolutely love to two tone my car, but i assume that would be expensive. being a uni student and working at maccas only allows me a limited amount of money.
im seeing the the best way to go would probably be to get the door resprayed.
You could do it your self for cheap (like $100-$150), thats the point I was making, you can do it your self, save money and not worry about the paint not matching.

Down side to taking them off. You'll regret it when someone opens their door into you in a carpark!

I need some statesman/ calais woodgrain for drivers side panel!!
Unless its a show car you can prob do a decent job yourself with some fine paper, some undercoat and a can of touch up white and maybe some clear over it. Just depends on the condition of the rest of the car and how long its going to live.
You could always get them to paint the bottom half of the door that would be cheap again
All they would have to do is paint it from the top crease of the door down
Cheapest option is to put the strips back on.
But the strips add weight so you use more fuel.
