my car is on superlow dobinsons springs had the rear shocks replaced with lowered gt monroe ones. with the front can the front shock-struts make like a knocking noise when going down a drive way and dont have a real nice feeling when driving been told i need to front struts-shocks and new top plates.. do the standard ones flog out that easy? and wat do they actually do when they do go. knocks, creakes, bangs anything
Try the bounce test, which is basically push down sharply on the front corner and if the car doesnt stop bouncing after a rebound then they are worn. This is a GENERAL rule of thumb and doesnt apply to all.
Your strut bushes could be worn... id also check all the bushes underneath the car that belong to the linkages and swaybars etc, check for loose nuts or any play.
iuve done new upper control arm bushes new link pins bushes.. where wud i look for play im not really up with all this suspension shit lol im just thinking i need new struts and top plates as ive lowered the car they may be flogged out?
Id suggest borrowing,or buying yourself a gregorys workshop manual and having a good look at the pictures of the disassembled suspension parts to give you an idea of what you may need to replace, you can learn a lot about your car from these manuals, Ive been using them for 25 years now and I still do when Im doing bigger jobs..
where do i get them from
ive seen them in repco when i went to get prices b4 christmas but didnt check price on them
Ebay or auto shops etc have them, second hand book stores are also a good way to get them. You can also borrow them from some libraries..
Repco, supercheap, autopro do. Usually they range from $35-$45 Hope this helps
cheers but does this sound like my front struts-shocks gone?
If theyve got over 100,000 km on them, and they are the orignial struts, then you can pretty much assume they are stuffed.
