I have been reading many post about this issue as I have now came across it I don't know much about cars but let me give it a shot at describing the problem.
First off I was leaving my mates house in Aldinga and driving too Happy Valley for any Members from Adelaide who know how far that is when about 3/4 way home my temp gauge was about 2/4 on the Temp Gauge and kept rising I noticed it rose alot more higher when I stopped but cooled down when I kept driving not completely cooled just 2/4 instead of 3/4. I took it home straight away and thought maybe my Thermo got stuck so i replaced it and why I had the chance drained all my coolant flushed it out and put more coolant in there still had the same problem. So I looked at my Fan when the car was turned on and it dosn't seem too be going as fast as it used too be and the fan on the front of my radiator only turns on sometimes when the AC is going? is this causing my car too over heat? I read could be a Temp Sensor fault or a ECU Fault.
If your confused just tell me and I'll try and say it again![]()
Cheers Brett.
Do you mean it reached half way when you say 2/4 ?? most of what you have descried is in the normal temperature range and its doing what it is supposed to do ,It should run cooler on the high way or when moving at a decent speed and heat up at traffic lights and drop again the Fan only comes when it needs to or when the aircon is switched on make sure you bleed the system
And what was the weather like when it was doing this ??
It's not normal for my VS had it for a year never went over 1/4 of the temp now it's just increasing if I kept driving it for say 1hour or 2 it would definitely over heat. I have bleed the system. Cheers for the hasty reply.
Is your radiator blocked up with rubbish? have you checked it for a blown head gasket

I flushed the Radiator completely today. Not a blown head gasket. The Fan behind the Radiator seems too be going slower and is spinning clock wise and anti clock wise they said it shouldn't be spinning like that and shouldn't be able to spin it by hand. people have said it might be a bad Water Pump? aswell? Sorry abit lost myself on it all and not too good with cars.
Bad Clutch Fan!!! that's what he said.
is it a electronic thremo fan? could be a number of things. first off, the thermo fan is the one that mounts onto the radiator(dunno i u knew this but put it in anyway lol). thermostat could be siezed. how did you flush it? because if you just took the bottom hose off, you could still have a blocked radiator. the pros use water combined with pressurised air with a special attachment. have you tried turning your heater in your car and turning the fan on? i know its a stupid thing to do in summer but the heater uses your cooling system to heat the car thru a mini radiator under the dash. checked all your fuses? could be a blown fuse or relay thats stopping the fan. remember theres fuses and relays under the bonnet
nd did you take main south road all the way? my dad lives in happy valley, grandmother in morphett vale, got rellies in scott creek, bridge water, mannum and murray bridge lol. i used to live in mt barker then nairne then over to this heater box lol
The thermo fans are known to fail and from your description that may be the problem. They should be stiff to move and not spin freely. When the engine is turned off, the fan should stop spinning after a second or so.

thought so. neway my vr acclaim only ever gets to half in traffic or when its idling for a while. then the thermo fan kicks in and drops it back down to 1/4. so i think hako is right, the thermo fan needs replacing. or am i getting the wrong end of the stick? is your fan attached to the engine or radiator?

Cheers everyone for the help the culprit was my Clutch Fan everythings back too normal now.
I would put an electic fan on it, sounds better.
