Ive been told by the wheel alignment bloke I need to get lowered struts to suit my lowered springs, but thats another story.. Anyway I have found someone wrecking a VS V8 ute with pedders struts, and my car has pedders springs, so if i got his struts, and used my springs, would it be alright in my VS V6? or would it not cos they have a different dampening rate or something? Cheers![]()
How low are the springs you put in? Easiest way to tell weather you need lowered shocks in the strut is if you jack it up till one of the front wheels is off the ground and the shocker it at max length, look to see if the spring is still seated at the top and the bottom, if the spring is moving around freely up and down with a gap then it's a good idea to replace them.
If the spring is still sitting in the top and bottom then they're fine as they are.
V6 & V8 struts are compatible.
I don't know how low my springs are, they were in there when i bought it. my main concern was just if the V8 Struts would be stiffer to compensate for the extra weight over a V6, which would give me a rougher than needed ride..
Best way to check is jump on monroe (sp?) website, punch in ur v6 front shocks, write down the part number, then do it again, just with the v8 change and compare the part number.
I believe it will list the same part number, its the springs that will determine the height and the ride more so over the shocks, yes yes I know the shocks do differ in ride quality also
it's the springs that differ between v6 & v8 struts not the shocks, i'd do the check i mention to make sure they're seating correctly and if they are still good and operating no need to change.
