Hey guys im installing a new aerial in my VR Commodore.
Ive gotten the old one off and im trying to remove the old bracket to install the new one cause the new aerial is slightly thinner than the old one and wont fit in the old bracket.
BUT...
The bolt that connects the bracker to the body is just spinning and WONT come out.
Is there a nut behind it and if so how do i get to it?
If not how do i get the bolt of?
If worst comes to worst ill just drill a new hole and mount the new bracker above the old one. is there anything i need to be careful of before i goto this drastic measure?
Thanks.
Yeah it's not a captive nut. you have to pull out the passengers side kick panel, then the ECU.
this will give you access to the nut, and also the connections for the aerial.
I didnt know that... But i do have to replace my aerial... Galahs just love the aerials in any car i drive![]()
I replaced mine not long ago and had the same issue. What I did was leave the bracket there, cut a couple of inches of the bottom of the old aerial off and use it as a sleeve for the part of the new aerial that goes in the bracket. You'll need to cut the sleeve down one side as well for flexibility. Then slip the new aerial and the sleeve back in the bracket (turn the bracket on an angle so it's easier) and tighten it up.
The other problem I came across was the ground. The old ground slipped under the head of the screw, and the new one needed the screw to come out but that's basically impossible, so just cut the new ground up to look like the old one and tighten it down.
If you're having space issues try using an electric drill bit in some vise grips, or buy some of the little thumbscrew ratchet things from SuperCheap that have the screwdriver ends.
Oh and as for the connections, just pull the cable and grommet through. I didn't need to pull the quarter panel, or anything from inside the car off.
