average life of inlet manifold gasket? vs commodore

hi replaced my inlet manifold gaskets about 70 000 k's ago (had only 90 000 on teh clock) they looked like they saw better days anyway made heaps of difference in performance....ive been getting a rough idle for a while and replaced everything that could cause it etc.. Could i have a stuffed gasket again? theres no oil or water being lost well maybe a bit of oil but could just be a little leak. ive read if teh inlet gaskets stuffed u can get bad fuel econamy? but shouldnt i be looseing water to? if its stuffed

the very first time i ever did inlet gaskets years ago, i put them in dry (i.e no sealant apart from the corners). these leaked within a few weeks. traces of oil in coolant & coolant in oil.

Ever since, i've installed them with plenty of sealant around every port, every oil and coolant gallery. pretty much sealing all areas from each other. Ive never had issues since.

That's how my experienced mechanic friend showed me to do it.

note: by 'plenty' (of sealant) i mean enough to create a good seal. Not so much that it oozes great amounts out
