Dyno tune = hundreds of dollars
    Ebay chip = $30

    But it's stage 4!
You want a good tune, read the threads (plenty of them), there's 3 or 4 blokes that will run you through a custom tune for your engine, from what i've read mace is pretty good.
without a dyno (expensive) or logs (inexpensive) for your engine you'll never get optimum performance for your engine & mod setup through the mail.

Tried one once on an ecotec, and compared it over some timed runs to the original, made no noticeable difference.
Engine performance is a complete package - intake, cam, exhaust, gear ratios and a tune that is specific for what you have and what you are using it for.
IMO - Unless you have made some mods like a cam etc, don't waste you money on changing the original tune. If you are making mods, then allow for professional tune in your budget.

A tune (depening on who does it) should make a noticable difference to how the car runs, even if the engine is standard. I only run extractors and exhaust on my VSV6, and Ive got some pretty good results experimenting with various settings in the tune. I get heaps better fuel economy, (I only use 98 octane fuel) and the engine is way more responsive, which is especially noticable at low to mid throttle, it just pulls under acceleration way better. Im pretty happy with where its at now, Ive been experimenting with the VSV6 tunes for nearly 2 years now. Ive also got the auto shifts shifting a hell of a lot better than they do with the standard settings.
One thing to rememeber is that if the car is not running perfect to begin with, a tune will not fix it, to get the best results from a tune, the engine needs to be running at its absolute best first.

You might get that much extra(8-12) if the engine and everything else is running perfectly to begin with..

My engine is runing perfectly, when I chucked in my memcal it was terrifying. It felt like 10-20kw gain.

well i dont have much killer mods done only just the standard:

-Custom pod and enclosure (this made a fairly noticeable difference at low end tourque and high end acceleration)
    -Manifold spacer 25mm
    -pacemaker extractors
    -2.5 inch cat back
    -Mace memcal
-clened/slightly ported the plenum (took a while to do lol)
    -Corvette servo

engin and car is is pretty good running order with 164000 K's

gear box is good, however i think the corvette servo i got a few gears back need new seals as i was always suspect on them.

and the mace tune did have a noticable difference, im not gonna say that it gave shit loads of power but i did notice iit espesially on 98 ron (95ron and 91 ron went better but not as good as 98 lol).

my mate got a mace tune for his Vs that was stock besides the corvette servo (and a floged out auto lol) and he said it had better acceleration and seem to get to the speed quicker.
like i said i just wondering if this guy no's tunes as he's been on ebay for quite some time and still selling them. unless hes just stupid lol

    Hello Jas98
I have got a tune from TRX100 before but it was for a V8 and i had no issues with the memcal i did pick up more kws but not the 15-16kws that he has said. The best option was once i done all of my mods i had a custom tune done to take full advantage of the mods on my car and i must say that is a much better way to go about getting the most out of your car. Oh and by the way i didn't pay $30 for mine so be careful cheap and nasty usually = and if its not broken dont fix it.

If you were aware of the few thousand item's that can be played with in a memcal bin you wouldn't be buying of ebay unless you can verify the seller and there sources. If you want the best tune possible then get a usb adaptor and load tunerpro on a laptop and start logging, this way it can be tuned to your car rather than off the shelf job. You can go further and link in wideband kits etc depending how good you really want the tune to be. You can either learn yourself or give us a hoy.

I may even paint certain parts of the engine and stuff to make it stand out my money situation isn't that good so I'll be buying things as money becomes available and once everything is purchased I'll stick it all in at once

Hell may as well rebuild the engine! :P

Im not going to harp on about if you want power, go for a V8. So that being said... If i wanted to go all out? Mine would look like this...

-Shaved heads (increase compression as much as i can)
    -Double valve springs
    -Oversized valves
    -5 degree valve cut
-High compression pistons (non forged type)
    -H-beam conrods
    -ARP bolts and studs
-A MACE stage 4 cam and roller rocker package
-Redo all bearings (ACL race series)
    -Balanced and blueprinted internals/ports
-Knife edging the crank (im not sure if this is applicable to these engines)
    -Extrude honed intake manifold
    -Upgraded injectors
    -Cooler thermostat
    -MACE CAI
    -Custom made intake pipe
-Pacie extractors and Y pipe. (HPC coated)
    -High flow cat
    -Straight thru exhaust system
    -3 core all aluminium radiator
    -ASR race spec oil pan
    -Uprated oil pump
    -Uprated fuel pump
    -Oil filter relocation kit
    -Engine oil cooler
    -Double row chain
    -Silicone hoses using T clamps
    -Speedflow fittings

I think thats it... I need another can, i cant concentrate properly... Thats just the engine...

I'm not a fan of v8 I'd rather have a v6 it's bad enough I wanted an ecotec engine but looks like its too much hassle to swap them and wiring I can do engines easily wiring not so good

no need for double valve springs just go the LS1 beehive springs from Crow Cams and also do the oil mods the the block

These include enlarging the oil feeds for mains 2 & 3, drilling holes above the cam in the block valley, deleting the balance shaft

He is right though... All my expertise n knowledge is in the japanese engines, not so much these kind of engines. But yes mods like that i would do as well. The entire engine is pulled down, it wouldnt take too long to do at all.

I know we have kinda hijacked the thread but while we are going:

    Suspension:

    -Bilstein Shocks (EDFC)
    -Ebachi springs
    -Whitelines swaybars
    -Adjustable panhard rod
    -Strut braces
-Polyurethane bushes all round except would use OEM rubber castor bushes (i have found that these crack out rather quickly)
    -Adjustable camber strut tops

Transmission: (thank christ mine is already done, im not entirely sure what all the parts are called - specs are as followes

    -Fully rebuilt Auto
    -Heavy Duty clutch packs
    -Extra clutch packs
    -Wider, kevlar bands
-Titanium piston (OEM one is cast that apparently cracks a lot)
    -Corvette servo
    -Bearings and seals
    -New valves
    -2200rpm stall converter
I will include diff mod as well
    -Kaaz 2way LSD
    -Aluminium finned diff cover

*The damn thing sure kicks you back in the seat everytime it changes... chirps into third even in the dry if you gun it...

    Brakes:

    -VE brake upgrade kit
-Upgrade to a decent rotor (RDA, BDA etc my pick is personally is Project Mu)
    -ADR approved braided lines
    -Upgrade master and slave cylinders
    -Dot 5.1 brake fluid

    *********

    Did i miss anything?
