    Default recoding keys

Hi, I have a wrecked vr sedan and was wondering if or how I can recode the key for my vr ute as my key doesn't remote unlock. My current key has 2 buttons and the wrecked one has 1 button.

Once a key has been coded, it cannot be re-coded.

I think you need a tech2 to be able to code it in.. Go to a mechanic and ask about it, if not luck go down to holdens if they can recode the key.

I think some locksmiths can 'clone' a key. Copying the eletronic content.

Tech 1 (or most generic) scan tools will tell the BCM that the new key is 'OK'.

just take the metal cut part out n swap to your other remote.. it may work (not 100%).. you will need to put it in ignition to on pos. for a few minutes.. then off n remove.. then on and start engine and run for 5-10 mins... then it should clear n overwrite it... if it doesnt work yeh it needs to be cleared.. some key joints in malls have some standard ones uncoded.. here i can getone bout 50bux.... then ya just do the steps i said before... worth a try..

Will need programming using a scan tool then.

    100% it won't.

Wouldn't be much of a security system if that was possible now would it?

There is a 'key on' security override function if the key fails, but this must be done for each engine start.
