    Default Airbag - driver

    Hey guys
If i remove the factory steering wheel with airbag and replace it with an aftermarket wheel, will that trigger an airbag warning light? I thought someone would have tried this and know the answer cheers

    The answer is Yes.

    And it's illegal.

Yeah, your car will be unroadworthy. If it didn't come out with an airbag, you would be able to change the steering wheel. If the car came out with an airbag, it is illegal to put an aftermarket steering wheel on or replace with a steering wheel without an airbag.

Just be careful if you ever do play around with those air bags... I have seen a few horror accidents when i have turned up to an MVA and the airbags havent gone off until after we get there and start the rescue. Have even been in the shed when a friend was removing his steering wheel and had a pair of pliers in his hand which was resting on the seat... He leant under the wheel and yanked on a wire which set off the airbag, hit his hand with the pliers in it and the pliers smashed straight thru his rear windscreen...

But ^^^ are right. To my knowledge it is illegal in all states... which is kinda weird since they cant really agree on anything

These "I wanna get rid of ma airbag" threads annoy me when they pop up.

Apart from the leagal/Roadworthy issues, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO REMOVE A SAFTEY DEVICE!

Its not the desire to remove the airbag. Its the desire to have a nice wheel. Now, go make a cup of tea...

Do you mean encourage? If youre going to be a smart arse, you first need to be smart. You've got the other half covered.

To the OP, you are complete idiot for replacing your steering wheel with one without an airbag. Although that has already been said to you multiple times, so I guess the technical word for you is SLOW!
