Could be the injectors I've just been having the same problem but looks like the filter fixed it, check for code errors

Easy mate - just need a paper clip, bend it out in the shape of a big U then put each end in #5 & #6, so basically side by side.

If you open you open your door and look under the steering wheel then follow to the bottom of the dash, the connector will be there.

As soon as that is done, turn your ignition on and watch the engine light flash.

Use that link to follow what code it spits out... Let us no how you go mate

Like Fenix_Longbow posted easy as you can do it mate..

Just remember it will flash 3 times.

    1 flash/2 flashes = 12
    1 flash/2 flashes = 12
    1 flash/2 flashes = 12
    error code is ok.

    then it might go
    1 flash/3 flashes = 13
    1 flash/3 flashes = 13
    1 flash/3 flashes = 13
so error code 13 may be your problem.

If you just had the car at the Mechanic, take it back and calmly explain what happened, I would be surpised if they dont want to help.
If you have been reading this forum long, then you would realise that when a fault occurs, it "should" log a fault code in the cars computer, but this does not always happen, leaving the mechanic little to go by, other than your description of the problem.
I had a similar intermittant fault that was difficult to find, ended up being the DFI module (under the coil packs) if you know someone with an old commodore, then borrow the DFI/Coil pack for a week and see if the problem goes away. It is very easy to remove and replace.

I remember correctly they installed a 2nd hand DFI module they said they were "testing it"....other than the DFI module what else could be wrong? spark leads?

Plug leads mainly play up under load (up a steep hill or towing). so I would htink if they were that buggered it would not run at all.
Has the IAC (Idle Air Control) been replaced? (It's a little motor that controls the idle)

my mum had this problem. she had the fuel pump replaced twice and it turned out to be sand in the tank. did they clean out the tank when they changed the fuel pump? also does it splutter and then die or is it just like its running one min and then the next its gone?
