Unless you know what pressure the fuel is ment to run out and that, just go with a stock replacement. You said you can run it through your stock fuel reg as well. That means you would want to buy a new stock one anyways. A new one is $175? from repco. Fuel should also not be leaking into your vacuum line, thats an indication its stuffed.
I wrote up a how to on changing one not so long ago if you wanna have a read.

i think there supposed to run at around 40 psi give or take.

reason i asking is new ones are dear as and ive hherd of allot of people useing these but dont know if its worth it or not as some say they adjust it to get better econamy and some say to get better throttle response.

also i had a problem where i go to crank the engin over after its been sitting over night and it cranks for about 5-8 seconds before fireing. does it sometimes after being left for a few hours to.

i changed the regulator with a spare one i had but now that problems back (after 5 weeks) and its worse.

i checked the vacum hose and it seems dry at the end that enters the plenum but the end that goes to the regulator has some brown sludgy shit in there and when i run my finger over the vacum outlet on regulator i get a fair bit of sludge on my finger that looks and smells like the sludge inside the plenum but has a tiny fuel smell to it but im not sure

should there be any sludge or andy wetness in this pipe? i thorght there mite be that plenum sludg in there but its a vacum pipe so there shouldnt be anything in there right??

    cheers

Just go the stock one on a stock engine.

More fuel pressure just means a richer mixture is being injected. The ECU will try to correct using the oxygen sensors so all you will end up with is fuel trim and oxygen sensor codes.

ok, but if i adjust it correctly it should be fine. How do i connect it to teh original one? ive seen a few posts saying to just connect it up to teh original one as it works that way but if theres no vacum at the original one then how the hell does the fuel get through the stock regulator and to the after market regulator?

Your starting problem may be leaking injectors too. It could be flooding and taking that 5-8seconds to get rid of the excess fuel which allows it to start. for the fuel pressure reg just get the stock replacement, there are no gains from running it on a stock vehicle and are only used when it's an engine conversion (still need to know the factory pressure) or with performance mods like supercharged and turbo. If you do run an adjustable one get rid of the factory one as it's no longer needed.

i was thinking fuel injectors however they have been tested and cleaned etc. it did this like 5 weeks ago so i changed the reg and it ran fine up till now. i can smell a bit of fuel when opening bonnet but theres no sighn of a leak only the fuel smell and oil stuff in the reg pipe.

When they did the injectors did they remove them from the car to clean them?

Have they been fitted with new seals (O rings)?
