Hope you can help, probably more for the mechanics, I'm looking at a cheap scan tool for a 96 vs, but I need to know which software to use, I've got two different systems, one is the (OBD2) which is most cars from Jan 1 96, I'm led to believe that this is the one as it was used on gm vehicles overseas, the other system is aldi, I haven't seen this one, but not 100% sure. Please help.
I think you mean ALDL (assembly line diagnostic link)
VS is not OBDII.
The VR and VS use a unique to Australia protocol, I guess you could call it OBD 1.5.
Try this link (a bit nerdy, but is shows the pin layout)

You don't need a scan tool to extract codes.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?
i have adaptors for vs-vy or get them from delcohacking, tunerpro can read fault codes and all sensor data which is all free. it's a obd2 connector but uses obd1.5 protocol
Thanks, I've checked error codes and it tells me there's nothing wrong, what a crock. A scan tool will be helpful in future, it's easier and if I get a good one should do more than just the commi
yeh if you get an adaptor and do logging with tunerpro, post up the log and we'l have a look
i use efilive v4
