    Default VS Commodore Engine Oil

My dipstick was at the add line and I'm not sure what grade it was in it but I topped it up with 20w - 50 and it is now rather noisy. Help?

It may have had full synthetic in it. Synthetic and mineral oils don't mix.

20W50 is the recommended oil for the VS so it wouldn't have been the grade. You can mix most grades without a drama when just adding a little, but never mix full synthetic with mineral.

I may have filled it up above the full line. Would that be a reason for the strange noises like ticking.

Not unless it went about 20mm above the full line.

How much did you add ??
From the add line to the full line would be about 1 litre.
If you mix full synthetic with mineral oil, you can get foaming.

Did you close the bonnet properly ? If ALL you did was add a little oil then put the cap back on and close the bonnet i reckon you are just hearing things that don't exist or where there already.
Check the dipstick again to see if the level is way too high. What else did you touch under the bonnet ?
