Could you please re-phrase your question as it doesn't sound clear to an old bloke like me....what do you mean by 'tries to overdrive'?

I think he means it shifts up.

Could be your tune or TCC Lockup

try a stock memcal and see if it changes it behavior, was it a proper tune or just one of the ebay specials you installed?

    I'd still like more information!

I'm guessing stage4 means eBay special but as seeing you have to put your foot Down to keep it at 100 have a look at the cable and see if there is any slack if there is and you tighten it up your accelerator will be better as far as overdrive with that chip in it pretty much is in power mode it's tuned that way then when you do go into power mode it pushes your car and your ecu to the maximum limit

Also the tune is really only good for stock cars your original memcal won't help with the mods you have you will need to either contact a tuner on here or mace for a real tune

possibly tps, vss or memcal tuning would be my guesses, as i said try the stock memcal if you still have that to see what the gear change behavior is at 100, should have to push the pedal a fair distance before it drops back, not just slightly accelerate in eco mode.... if it does the same then that rules that out.

I'm going to add with a tune or a stock memcal the maximum shift point from 3rd to 4th is 103 so funny enough I was having the same problem I was on 103 and when I dropped to 99 it would automatically go to 3rd so on highway driving unless your at or over the 103 mark it will stay in 3rd

Hard to tell from your description but it sounds like the TC is locking up. My VS did the same thing where it would bog down going up a slight hill or if you gently accelerate at 100 km/h it would lose speed and get a droney exhaust note so you would need to boot it and make it kick down a gear to go anywhere. Funnily enough when I got a memcal it fixed this. Now the TC unlocks in 4th a lot easier so you can actually make the thing accelerate without it kicking down a gear.

ghost the shift point isn't set at a certain speed, relies on speed and tps to change, eco and pwr are set at different points also.

couple of quick screen shots of a stock memcal 3-4 4-3 shift points, speed vs tps position.
if all set correctly and slightly accelerating you should have to get the tps well past 50% in eco mode before it'll kick down around 100km/h. If you jump on the throttle and accelerate hard it'll kick down sooner

A mate of mines VS was doing the same, the TC wasnt locking up right and i think later it led to his clutch bands being prettttty effed up.. haha maybe you should look into just giving your auto a quick service with some good fluids and also possibly add a transmission cooler... Sounds to me like ur tranny needs some lovin' ;-) BAHAHA.. or ur tune is an eGay tune... tisk tisk tisk....

My trans was well serviced and still had that annoying lockup issue unless I drove at 110+km/h everywhere. A bit of research led me to find the TC lockup was a problem in some VS and early VT's and dealers fixed the issue with a software upgrade for free if people complained of having issues when the cars were new. Don't know how accurate this info is since I've never played around with tuning like some guys on here, but I tried buying with a memcal that claimed to have improved shift points. Fixed the problem and improved the way it drove

4th gear overdrive is shit, you give it any gas at all, like the lightest touch it will shift down.
