Hi,
Just have a VS engine on the stand preparing it for installation.
Whilst changing the front crank seal I found the crankshaft has a tight spot when number 5 cylinder is at TDC.
It feels like it is touching something soft, almost like a lump of rubber, as the piston hits TDC and when I force it over TDC it is easy to turn until next TDC.
So, it is independent of whether intake or exhaust stroke.
Any ideas?
Cheers, Al
Most likely the piston is going to the top and compressing the air so its harder to push it… Sounds like there is nothing to worry about so dont stress![]()

Is the resistance felt with the sparkplug in or out?....were the piston bores lubed after pistons reinstalled?.. I'd want to know exactly why this is happening especially after spending a lot of time/money on doing an engine up.
