Default Odometer / Trip Meter both not working

    Hi All,

Both my Odometer & Trip Meter stopped working on the weekend.

Went for a Cruise out to Northam (110 kms east of Perth) and the road out there can get pretty bumpy at times. Not sure if something has rattled loose or broken.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should be looking for when I pull the cluster out ?

    Thanks.

if your speedo is still working, but your odo/trip doesnt work, i believe it will be the sun cog in the speedo cluster insert. over time the teeth become brittle and can snap off and it only takes one tooth to be snapped off before it will stop working

    Have you replaced one before?

The one in the first picture is most common one to wear out, yet there is a another one that can break which I thought was called the sun cog

This is most common one to break

U can either spend 2 bucks on a cog or you can buy my cluster for 50 bucks

well i dont know where you live, but it would have cost me 50 to get the cog so i went and upgraded my dash. best thing i ever did and havent regretted it for a second. not really that hard to do and if you use the correct harness unlike me then it will be even easier

    Sun cog gear
^^that one is incorrect for the replacement. its a solid cog with one hole in the centre and i believe 25 teeth

I meant the op lol I could send him my old dash I replaced the cog myself I know to get the cluster apart without removing the speedo needle so when it's back together the speedo isn't altered

    Wrong

The first picture sounds like the one you are trying to explain, the second picture is the sun cog you mentioned. I was simply showing you the difference.

    Thanks all for your input.

I ordered the two cog set James39 showed in post #14 yesterday. $15 on ebay. Didn't see the second one James posted above when looking through ebay yesterday. Oh well, should do the job.

Hopefully it will be here next week.

And Ghost, thanks for the offer but I'll give this a shot.

when you go to change the cog, you dont need to take the needle and face off to do it. all you need to do is undo the bolts/nuts that hold the middle cluster in and once out carefully undo the 2 phillips head screws that hold the odometer motor in. easiest and quickest.

Yes i have james. i actually did it for a member on here and posted it over to him. i was using information that was provided to me by members on here when i was tossing up whether to replace cog or upgrade to lvl 3 dash. obviously the person who gave me the name of the first cog as a sun gear doesnt know what theyre talking bout. but using my description you have managed to figure out which one i was talking about so i would assume others would as well lol

Thanks mate...yeah I saw there was an amendment made to the How To thread that James posted which mentioned skipping the step where you remove the needle and face.

Now I just want the cog to arrive so I can get it done.
