vs gearbox

4l40e or 4l60e vs commdoore??

Help Please,

I have a vs series 2 auto, and me and my brother are having a despute about what to do with performance mods to the car. He said the 4l40e wont take it. I said: its a 4l60e isnt it. Can some one clear this up for me?? im not convinced......

Its just a boring ecotec v6, and looking to droping in 5L but not sure if gear box will take it. (reason for arguement)

BTW: It has about 190,000km on it as far as we know without a rebuild.

you are correct in saying 4l60e, if you are planning on droping in a v8 you may need the box to go with it as i think the v6 an v8 run different bellhousing mounts an the torque conventer is differnet i think.

I know the VS has a 4L60E stock...but what does a VR Have? Does the VR have a 4L60 or 4L60E?

VR to VY all ran 4l60e with minor updates for each year.
HSV VY GTS was the first to run a 4l65e which was same but for small changes internaly

Type 4L60E into GOOGLE and you'll find heaps of places which say they can make this transmission as strong or whatever as you like. It is probably one of the most common auto's in the world.
