    Default White LED's in Cluster

    Hi guys.

I did a blue LED conversion in my VS (LVL 3 cluster) a while back but am getting a bit bored of the blue.

Wanting to get some of the powerful Jaycar true white LED T10's (really good globes, has 4 odd LED's in the one globe) and have a VE styled white backlit cluster.

I understand that this is going to be hard due to the green film in the fascia but I have heard this can be sanded away.

Has anyone had any experience in this.

As far as I am aware the white should be perfectly possible as long as I properly sand the green film on the back of the fascia away.

Anyone know if this would work?

    Thanks

I don't really want to steer away from the Genuine fascia.

I don't like the look of any of the aftermarket ones on ebay.

Only way I will do it is to modify a genuine one, if I can't will just stay with blue

I have stock looking facias. Looks 100% stock but with clear lettering/numbers. I paid $120 for these to my place. I did not like how they were made. Yours for $50 if you want them.

    For the VS L3.

Forgot to mention that i tried the sanding the green bit away, it failed hard. Some sports took the black out, so white dots appeared, and the green got lighter.

Lol I wonder how many people have done the same thing. Seen a few mobs on ebay saying that its as simple as sanding the back off and changing the lights.

white comes up pretty good without modifying the facia, looks a little different to the stock globes, ignore what seems to be a hot spot in the middle it's just a dodgy camera phone, in rl it's barely noticeable.

the 5 smd t10's require some modification to the clear plastic on the speedo and tacho gauges in a lvl 3 otherwise the center globe will not go in, this was achieved by introducing it to the bench grinder carefully.

how much are the jaycar leds?

I've ordered a few of lots off this seller, the purple are crap and very dim, blue and white are bright, I even dismantled 1 and put individual leds in each of the globe holes in the lcd readout, cut a track and soldered a resistor in to drop the voltage (was almost microsurgery getting them to stay where i wanted)
there is a thread somewhere about modifying the trip computer and removing the green plastic strips behind the lcd panels, mentions the plastic is normally quite brittle and the screw holes break very easily........

as for sanding the green off, i'll have a go on a spareparts cluster and see what happens.
