Hi everyone
Last Saturday I have concluded that my Stn Wagon is unfixable. I have never been so frustrated in trying to fix a car and it has reduced me to tears. I am now "over it" and will be getting a new car.
My problem is with the idling and revving of the car. It is uneven and now the car is driving as if it is "sticking" or retarded. It sounds like it is just about to cut out but then it ''"revs" itself up to fight it. It's like I'm putting my foot on the accelerator but I'm not.
Anyway, I have had everything checked with mechanics and they have tested the computer and whatever else you can test and it shows no faults.
I am now told it could be the computer or the "wiring". Who knows!
The car has
1. A reconditioned engine which has only done 18,000km's and under warranty for 100,000.
2. Crank engine sensor has been replaced.
3. Ignition module replaced last thursday (hoping to fix problem but now worse)
4. EFI & Fuel pump all checked OK.
5. Rear brakes near new
6. Autotransmission serviced
7. Radiator basically new
There is other things replaced as well.

The car though is practically undriveable. Well it does, how well depends on its "mood"

In terms of trying to get some money back. Do I take it to a wrecker or advertise the parts separately myself. Any advice would be appreciated. If anyone can use anything let me know as well !!
Thanks

you would probably get more selling the car for parts if it is undriveable. It may take a bit longer to get the money, but you will make heaps more in the long run

If the engine is under warranty I'd take it to the engine repairer and ask them to fix it... If they refuse or can't fix it then I'd threaten to take it to a genuine Holden dealership to find the fault and then sue the engine reconditioners asses off.

I wouldn't wreck the car on what you have described...it sound very much like the engine management is playing up..Computer or sensor. Ask around and find a good fuel injection guy in your area....one who can work out the problem without changing half the car. I used to work in the industry and it's scary how some mechanics go about fixing fuel injection problems !

Sounds definately like a bad earth maybe from the ECU to a sensor such as the manifold absolute sensor.

Take it to a qualified auto electrician, if all the mechanic was doing was plugging in a tech 2 then a qualified electrician is the way to go. Remember these cars are very common so any decent auto elec will be able to fix it quite easily.

Probably will only cost you for diagnosis and maybe 100 bucks if a sensors rooted.

You won't recover the money that the cars worth either way, so take it to an auto elec.

Ring up your local RAC* and ask them for someone they reccomend if you don't know anyone in your area.

I just wanna stress that you take it to an auto elec..

Mechanics are like doctors, they know a bit about everything, but when there's something specialised involved, you have to see the specialist.

Get what I mean, i bet for an autoelec this would be an easy fix.

G'luck let us know

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have now called the RAC and have booked the car in for Friday with a auto electrian. It's going to cost a max of $220 for a diagnosis. If the fault is found quickly it's only $55. The cars "intermittant" problem is happening more regular so at least that's a positive in helping for diagnosis. Drove it to work today and it played up abit. Said couple of "Hail Mary's"))) before driving home and made it!
Will let you know how I go.
Cheers
