Hey guys...
i noticed some oil on top of my bell housing (yesss on top)...so i investigated further...
and today i put my car (VS Calais I) up on a hoist and noticed that there was a fair amount of oil leaking/pooling towards the rear of the engine...coming from somewhere around the rear of the sump...
lots of it seems to be condensing on the tranny housing and dripping off there...
anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem??

Sounds like you could have the dreaded rear main seal goooooooooooonnne.
Pretty common thing to happen on the Vs's.
The sump gasket went in my old VS, but I never bothered to fix it. :whistling
More of a hassle to fix than ne thing else.

Just remember, degreaser is your friend!!! :b:

hmmm real main seals not always worth fixing.. seal doesnt cost much but the labour involved will kill you.

most commis will have a slight leak/sweat anyway, its nothing to worry about unless its more then a few drops a day.

I could be wrong but I thought the leaky rear main seal was fixed on the Ecotec engine...if so then a fix could be cheaper!!

The early 95 Ecotecs had rear main seal problems.

Same seal design from S2 VN-. The housing is different with EcoTech, however.

Because the oil is on top of the gearbox, I would suggest an inlet manifold gasket.

Instead of guessing where the leak is coming from, y dont u degrease the engine.
Then over the course of a couple days find out where the oil is actually coming from?
Save you stressing over a wot if???

More a rocker cover gasket for oil to be on top of the bellhousing, sure my car leaks but I have yet to see the drop that's always there fall, when the rack was leaking there was oil everywhere, so a drop on the bottom of the housing is OK.

My HJ75 landcruiser had it's rear seal replaced, " $850.00 " be thankfull it's a commodore.
