Hi guys,
I have just purchased a VR v6 S1 and when I am accelerating, there is a shudder from the rear end...
I have been told that a boot (I think it goes somewhere near the drive shaft and diff ?) can cause this if it is old.
Any ideas ?
Cheers.
Tail shaft could be unbalanced?
tailshaft centre bearing
tailshaft unis
engine mounts
gearbox mount
trans oil level
first off check you have the same size rims all round
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
Yeah, all the wheels are same size...
The shudder only happens under hard acceleration, if that helps and is certainly coming from the rear.
i had a similar prob ended up being my engine and gearbox mounts
Possibly rear shocks or bushse
when i bought my VR there was a shudder especially in first and second when u put your boot down.
the car yard fitted a new tailshaft and now theres no shudder.
The tail and driveshaft was not alligned properly.
I am leaning towards the tail shaft having some sort of drama... but I guess I'll see what the mechanic says...
It's the centre bearing in the tail shaft..... Get it replaced and all should be fine.
FWIW, if you get a shudder on slow down, its usually the centre bearing dying too.
simple to fix, if you have some experience.
Hope this helps

hi,
i've got a 5.0L VR statesman and the centre bearing has had it! i was quoted $170 to fix it and told that it was pressed in?? are they hard to change at home???
thanx heaps for all of your repsonses... its off the mechanic tomorrow morning, so I guess we'll see what they reckon (or how good they actually are - the car yards bloke)....
will update once fixed![]()
Get your tyres alligned and balenced. I had the same problem and it turned out that my rear tyres were out a few degrees which caused the car to shake under acceleration. Its worth looking into. BTW are your rear tyres very worn as my problem was actually found as i was getting a wheel change-over cause my rears were bald
Hi everyone... Just wanting to let you know that one of my uni's was worn, so the mechanic changed it... volia ! no more shudder...
BTW, tyres are in excellent condition
Thank you to all that shed some light on this for me !
i had a centre bearing done for $100 dollars fitted. used to make a hell of a noise with four people in the car lol.
