i would like to hear some opinions
is it worth getting a stage 2 kit in a 5L auto?
at the moment i still get a chirp into second without one, but probably only 2 out of 10 times
A stage 2 will have you chirping, with the possibility of breaking traction completely, depending on rubber and road condition. Stage 2's tend to make your box a bit stronger as well, at the cost of putting more strain on your diff. So if your diff is good, then go for it.
I put a DIY B&M kit in my auto v6... i went from never churping, to churping 6.5/10 times.. plus its good to put kits into your auto if you dont go over the top. (I installed the stage 2)
i have an irs lsd 175 000 k's ya reckon it will be up to it?
If it's still tight, as long as you don't constantly chirp, it should last a fair while.
...so if you don't push it does the tranny change smoothly or do you always get a bit of a jolt thru the gears ?
it also depends on how your kickdown cable is set up and wether or not it has a stally or not......mines still a bit harsh thru the gears and definately chirps sometimes even third on the hot mix because there is no weight in the back end

i just put in a stage one cause ive already had enough probelms with tranny and didnt want stage 2 breakin n e thign (what ive heard)
unless i can upgrade it again im pretty happy with teh changing.
what's the co$t of getting a stage 2 kit installed and I guess a stage 1 (if one is made) is pretty lame and a waste of money ? Also does it really make your tranny last longer ?
i was quoted 600 from the guy that rrebuilt my box
and it only cost 1400 to get my auto fully rebuilt the nearest quote i got in bris was 1700
I got a B&M stage 2 DIY for $85
You can do a Stage 2 on the cheap for about $300 including labour. I had mine done properly with booster valves, corvette piston etc. for $700. On WOT it cherps 9/10 times, sometimes on 3/4 throttle. It also depends on road surface/conditions and the amount on rubber on the back. I'm currently running 225/60/15's.
reading a few posts seems its probably worth getting the stage 2.
i put in the stage one for other reasons including money at the time.
question is can i upgrade it from there or do i have to pay for a whole new kit (like will it cost less cause ive got stage one installed?)
thx.
