i have recently turned 18 and going for my Ps soon (vic) and was looking to buy a VS. Basically i just wanna know (assuming its been looked after) what would be a reasonable amount of km on the clock, as i am looking to buy now and make a project of it for many years. Thanks in advance.
150,000 - 250,000 Km is the range most are in... there are some exceptional ones in the 80,000 - 150,000 Km range if your prepared to wait...
It took me 6 months to find the right car...

you can still find a few with 100,000k's on the clock... I reckon its worth looking till you find these beauties...
average seems to be between 170,000 - 220,000
there are also plenty of series ones and stuff around with 220,000 / 300,000 plus.

I got mine with 185,000 on the clock
on average a city car clocks around 25,000 per annum.
thats a ball park figure
but some cars are driven like tanks and some like they are gold plated.
get something thats basic and standard, keep away from ex govt and ex company cars because most of these are treated pretty rough.
look for one owner with completed logs and seek older drivers.
take someone over 45 to look for a car and listen to what they say.
if they see a heap of shit and you see a gem, they are most likely right.
oh and you stated you are looking for a project.
start with a reasonable car and remember that what cost you $20,000 to do up is still a $5,000 vehicle that someone was stupid enough to spend money on.
I got mine a week ago with 60,000 on it. It was meant to be a project car but there isn't a lot that needs to be done. I guess I got lucky because every thing else I looked at had over 110,000.
60,000 is really good my parents car is only like 2-3 years old with 50,000Originally Posted by whelton
thanks for all the replies, very helpful. also when i mean project car im not looking to make money off it, just a hobby and something rewarding to drive around in when the money and hard work have been put into it.
hey spend another $1000 to $1500 and get a statesman. Travel in style and hold resale value better
nah, i prefer the look of the non-statesman model![]()
